Francie Lyshak Paintings

These three series of paintings are dedicated to carving away the peripheral in landscape and architectural painting, to discover and examine its pictoral essence, devoid of narrative. All the paintings are meditative by virtue of the effect on the viewer who is invited to join in the contemplation of a place that is unknowable because it is devoid of details. By stripping away pictoral devices that define meaning, this work is a 'tabla rasa' that leaves the viewer to find its meaning by focusing within. As such each painting becomes a meditation space--a place to observe the ebb and flow of mind and a place to practice the finding and losing of self. These works invite the viewer to grapple with emptiness--an alternative to the visual noise that every day bombards, seduces and finally deadens our eyes.
